The power of words is not a metaphor; it’s in our brain wiring.

As social species, our brains are attentive to the people we spend the most time with, to the extent that we begin to mirror their actions, behaviours and language use - this is called co-regulation. Spend long enough with someone and you will notice patterns of common language use.

The power of words is a core element of how we regulate each other and we can reflect on the emotive or physiological impact we have experienced of words that have either enlightened, enamoured, or enraged us!

Equally, we have all experienced the resonating effect of a book, podcast, or song that has evoked a particular memory, or emotion. This trigger to our nervous system evidences how we regulate each other with words (the science around this will tell about glucose, chemicals and your bloodstream, but we’ll stick to the words at The Write Field!)

So, what do we do with the knowledge that we can tweak one another’s nervous systems and regulate our bodies through the power of words alone?

Consider your word consumption and projection:

💭 Is it varied?

💭 Is it kind?

💭 Is it a force for good?

💭 Is it a tool for development and growth?

💭 Does it promote positive energy?

💭 Are you spending time with people who bring out the best of you and your words?

We’re happy to be that person for you - reach out to The Write Field for our support.

I love this Fiona! As a life coach this resonates in the same way, but though our thoughts - that then create our lives and reality. I completely agree with the 'show me your friends, I'll show you your future' concept so this absolutely resonates! Thank you for your insightful thoughts on the power of words too...
